[招聘信息] PhD Student in Polymer Technology-KTH

PhD Student in Polymer Technology-KTH

KTH School of Chemical Science and Engineering (CHE) recruits a PhD Student in Fibre and Polymer Technology, division of Coating Technology.

KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden and is situated in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. There are circa 12,000 full-year undergraduate students, 1,400 postgraduate students and 3,100 employees.
The School of Chemical Science and Engineering includes the areas Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Fibre and Polymer Technology. It encompasses both fundamental and applied chemical sciences and seeks sustainable development through scientific excellence. Many researcher activities are interdisciplinary across the borders from chemistry to material science, environmental science, biochemistry, biology and medicine. The School offers Bachelor and Master programs in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and three international Master programs specializing in Biomaterials, Chemical science and engineering and Pharmaceutical engineering.
The research activities within Fibre and Polymer Technology cover many areas of macromolecular design, synthesis, analysis and application, for more information, please see

ProjectThe PhD project “Cellulose as a sustainable resource for biocomposite materials” is focused on utilizing recent advancements within the field of polymer chemistry, such as controlled radical polymerization, to modify cellulose with synthetic polymer brushes and then to construct biocomposites based on the modified cellulose. Additionally, further functionalization could be built into the biocomposite by the grafting of functional polymers, such as anti-bacterial properties. The project is a FORMAS project and will have a strong collaboration with the Biomime centre (www.biomime.org). The project will involve polymer synthesis, characterization, construction of biocomposites and their subsequent evaluation. Research results will be disseminated through scientific publications and international conferences.
The Ph.D. position is for a maximum of five years, normally including 20% departmental duties (typically course assistance).

QualificationsThe candidate should hold the degree of Master of Science in Chemical Engineering or other similar university degree. Qualifications in polymer and organic chemistry as well as material science are requested. The project will also require independent work in addition to collaborative skills and creative thinking. A strong interest in research is a necessity.
To diversify its competence, KTH aims to employ a diversity of talent and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the University, especially as concerns its gender structure.
